hash oil

hash oil

There are several ways to make cannabis oil yourself. The biggest difference is in the price. Making cannabis oil can be very expensive. However, there is also a way to keep costs under control; making cannabis oil based on hash. Below we will explain why making hash oil is a smart choice as far as we are concerned. And more importantly: we tell you exactly how this works.

Weed buds, clipping waste and hash

Anyone who takes a closer look at the possibilities for making cannabis oil will immediately see why it can be so expensive. Just a little bit of cannabis oil often requires a lot of material from cannabis plants. Cannabis buds contain many cannabinoids (active substances), but are also pricey. And if you opt for cutting waste, there is another problem: although it is cheaper, it contains fewer active ingredients.

In addition, a lot of alcohol is usually required to make cannabis oil. Unfortunately, alcohol is also very expensive.

The benefits of hash

The solution to the above problems? hash. For a very simple reason: if you make cannabis oil with hash oil (that is, hash oil), the costs are reduced in two ways. Firstly, a lump of hash can contain as much as forty to fifty percent active substances, i.e. cannabinoids. And on top of that, hash oil requires less alcohol.

All this does not mean that hashish produces less strong oil, on the contrary. Hash often produces a much more effective end product than when cannabis buds or clippings are used.

Compare prices

So what exactly are the price differences? Well, for a bottle of cannabis oil that is made from clipping waste or cannabis buds, about fifteen to twenty grams of weed is needed. A gram of weed is between nine and fifteen euros. In other words: you will lose at least 135 euros on a bottle. And then there is another problem, because in the Netherlands a person is only allowed to purchase five grams of cannabis at once.

Now let's compare that to hash. You only need five grams of hash for a bottle of hash oil. A gram of hash costs about six to twelve euros. In short: then you suddenly have enough with 30 euros. And that other problem is also solved immediately, because you can buy five grams of hash in one go.

THC and CBD

Another advantage of hash is that hash often comes from wild cannabis plants. This is especially true for hashish from abroad, such as from Morocco. These cannabis plants often contain CBD, and medicinal powers are attributed to CBD.

Make your own hash oil

Well, by now it will be clear why we find hash oil so suitable. Now we will explain how to make hash oil yourself. You need to get the following to get started with the production:

  • 5 grams of hash
  • Alcohol (pure)
  • Precision Scale
  • pipette bottle
  • small funnel
  • A glass
  • bottle warmer
  • Coffee filter that can be washed
  • small jar

*Tip: some of these articles you can buy in our webshop.

Step 1: cleaning

It is very important that all items you use are completely clean. Only then can you make well-functioning, clean products. That is why it is very wise to wash all items thoroughly first. Be sure to use hot water to make sure the bacteria are gone.

Step 2: weigh

If there is a lid on the small jar you have chosen, take it off. Then you should weigh the jar with the precision scale. Make a note of the exact weight so you don't forget it. This is important because once you have made the oil you will be weighing again. The difference between the two numbers indicates exactly how much oil you have left.

Step 3: mixing hash and alcohol

First of all, you need to crumble the hash. It doesn't have to be perfectly crumbled, a little is enough. Then put the hash in the glass. Then add the alcohol: 75 ml, to be exact.

Now it's time to wait a bit. Few minutes. So that the alcohol has time to soak off the hash. However, you will still see chunks of hash even after waiting. You should prick these chunks manually, for example with a skewer. It is also possible to use metal tools for this. That's even better, because it prevents the alcohol from soaking into the tool.

After this step, the hash in the alcohol should have become completely fine. This is the time when you can cover the glass. You can use kitchen foil for this, for example. It doesn't really matter what you use, as long as the glass is covered. Then let it stand for fifteen minutes.

When you have waited fifteen minutes, stir the glass again. Keep a close eye on whether you see any lumps floating during the stirring. Then stir vigorously and wait another XNUMX minutes. Only when all the lumps have disappeared and you really only see a dusty mass, you are ready for the next step.

Step 4: filter

Pick up the jar you weighed again. Put the small funnel in here. Then put the filter in the funnel. The aim of this step is to make the final product as pure as possible. Filtering is necessary to retain only the important components.

Take the stuff you made in the previous step – hash mixed with alcohol – and pour it into the filter. Be careful! If you do this too quickly, the filter can overflow. This is because the substance settles at the bottom and the alcohol therefore has trouble passing through.

There is always something left behind in the glass. You can use a little extra alcohol to loosen it and still pour it into the filter. This way you avoid wastage. After that you just need patience. It may take a while for the stuff to get through the funnel completely, but that doesn't matter. That's how it should be.

When you have finished pouring, it is smart to take the kitchen foil again. This allows you to cover the filter. Otherwise, dust can settle in your product. Incidentally, this is wise anyway, to limit the alcohol smell a bit. That air is not too pleasant for the home.

When the last drop of alcohol has ended up in the jar, this step is almost over. Squeeze the filter again so that the leftovers also end up in the jar. What remains in the filter afterwards can simply be thrown away. (Unless you want to make something else out of it, like brownies. Then you just have to roll them into a ball, wrap with cling film and keep in the fridge.)

Step 5: vaporize

Fill the bottle warmer up to a quarter with water. Turn on the bottle warmer on the highest setting. Note: This can also take a while. Above all, don't be impatient. If it takes too long, you can switch off the bottle warmer for a while and continue at a later time.

Now put the jar with the mixture in the bottle warmer. Top up with water until the jar starts to float. It is very important that the bottle warmer does not run out of water. Therefore, check every hour whether the water is still in it.

The evaporation also causes a nasty smell. Therefore, open a window during this process. Or do it outside in the garden, for example. It is also important that you do not inhale the vapor.

When will it be ready? Probably after about six to eight hours. You are ready when the alcohol has completely evaporated. What remains is oil. A viscous substance at the bottom of the jar. Even then it is smart to wait a little longer, preferably another four hours. Then you know for sure that it is ready.

Step 6: Finish

Hooray, it's done! Now you can weigh the jar again to find out exactly how much hash oil you have made.

Step 7 (Optional): Dilute

It is also possible to dilute the hash oil with, for example, olive oil. People do this to make it easier to dose the hash oil. That is entirely up to you. Coconut fat is also sometimes used for this. The body can easily absorb coconut fat. When you opt for such an option, it is wise to put the oil in the bottle warmer afterwards. An hour at most.

Step 8 (optional): from THCa to THC

The hash oil basically contains THCa. If you prefer to make THC from that, you have to put the hash oil in the oven for another thirty minutes at a temperature of 120 degrees. This is called decarboxylation. So this is optional.

Storage and dosing

Store the hash oil in the pipette bottle. This allows you to dose the hash oil during use. It is also possible to put the oil in a capsule, people who find the taste unpleasant do this. With capsules, the effect occurs after twenty minutes. With drops this often takes five to fifteen minutes.
